The process used to create, review and validate the competency profile followed a best-practice approach to competency development and strongly relied on the content expertise of a diverse group of homeopaths. The Homeopathy Act, 2007

The Homeopathy Act, 2007, allows for the creation of the Transitional Council of the College of Homeopaths of Ontario (TC-CHO) and the development of a registration process to ensure homeopaths are adequately trained and qualified to practice in Ontario. The transitional Council is developing registration requirements, practice standards and drafting regulation, and put in place other necessary work that will allow the College to fully operate and register members. Once the transitional Council completes its work, the College will have the tools to fully regulate the practice of homeopathy in the public interest. This transitional process is expected to be complete in 2013.

The transitional Council is responsible for establishing the College of Homeopathy of Ontario to allow self-regulation of the homeopathy profession within the framework of the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Homeopathy Act, 2007. It has a specific duty to protect the public interest. For more information on regulations click here.

At this time, no person can claim that his/her homeopathic practice is regulated or that he/she is a regulated or registered homeopath in Ontario. The transitional Council has not begun to register any members and will not be in a position to do so until the necessary work is completed and its registration regulation and processes have been developed. The draft regulations and processes must be before the Government of Ontario, at which time registrant applications can be processed.
